White Ranch Park (2 miles)

A White Ranch Park campsite.

A typical White Ranch Park campsite adorned with a Big Agnes Copper Spur 4.

Looking to help car campers transition to backpacking or get kids excited about the outdoors? This is your spot.

Close to Denver? Check. Easy hike? Check. Extra amenities? Picnic tables and an outhouse are included.

This short trip is excellent for families and those new to backpacking. The proximity to Denver is a bonus, but can also cause it to get very hot in the summer. It’s best avoided mid-June through end of August, if possible.

What makes it special?

This is the best place to introduce kids, youth, families, or those hesitant to go backpacking to the activity. It’s close to Denver, the hike is easy but just hard enough for new backpackers to feel like they’ve accomplished something. The picnic tables and outhouse are a bonus.

Campsites and permits

Camping is in designated spots and on tent pads (each spot accomodates two tents on average).

Spots at Sawmill Campground (the non-equistrian spot in White Ranch Park) can be reserved in advance here.
